23 May Desserts Using a 3D Printer
miFLAVOUR strives to be an innovative bakery that uses the latest technologies. We have incorporated 3D printing technology to provide our customers with the ability to make personalized products. For example, the thought of making custom cookie cutters used to be just an interesting idea, but now it has become a reality for a business like ours. We have in-house professionals that work on 3D printing cookie-cutters that allow us to meet any customer request.
3D printing is an amazing new technology. People now have the ability to make precise and custom built items in a short amount of time. Previously to have something specific manufactured, a craftsperson would have to hand-fashion it out of material. There was room for error in this method and it took time, as it was labor-intensive. Then, with the advent of machines, people were able to design forms and fill them with material to create many of the same items. This resulted in uniformity in the designs. However, this method was not attainable for every person. Making a mold is an expensive process and not always the best fit if many items were not necessary. Now, with the advancement of the digital age, we are able to design custom items and bring them to reality with ease.
This technology was first created in the 1980’s by Chuck Hull. 3D printing works on creating an object by adding to it, layer by layer. Just like a regular 2D printer at home prints based on a digital file, 3D printing also needs a digital file to know where to deposit the layers of materials. This process has many pros, such as: less waste of materials, faster manufacturing, and lighter weight of objects.*

miFLAVOUR would like to share a story of how we were able to accommodate and design a custom order using this technology. We received a request from London’s Ultimate Catering to provide personalized desserts for an Umpqua Bank grand opening celebration. They asked that we would display their logo on the desserts for the party. We employed this opportunity to make custom-printed 3D cutters that we used to cut out the exact Umpqua Bank logo and put them on custom colored macarons. The owners of the bank and the guests were in awe of the results. It was a perfect way to promote their brand and also have a tasty dessert to enjoy.
Anyone can now promote their business brand through our desserts! We will work with you to design a custom and personalized product. We have the technology!
Also, we thank all of you for the kind comments you left in the previous blog post 20 QUESTIONS FOR miFLAVOUR CO-OWNERS. We held a random drawing and the winner of the Grand Macaron Gift Box is Julie Y. Congrats Julie!!
