Who loves pandas?! Such a beautiful esthetic a panda has: its silky-soft white fur contrasts with dark oblong downturned eye patches, cute triangle nose, and two big round ears. They are so cute, at times it is hard to believe these monochromatic animals are actually real and not something from a cartoon. This unusual and cuddly bear is actually the rarest of all bear species. Less than 2000 wild pandas remain in the world. Pandas reside in Southwestern China and are considered one of the most popular animals there. Only four zoos in America are fortunate to house these lovable creatures – out on loan from the Chinese government.
Pandas seem like such gentle animals. Unlike other bears, pandas eat almost entirely a vegetarian diet. They spend 14 hours a day munching on bamboo, their main source of food. Because most of the bamboo is not actually absorbed in the digestive tract, pandas require lots and lots of bamboo to receive enough calories. They don’t hibernate like other bears because they don’t retain enough fat reserves to sleep several months without a food source. Though pandas appear cute and clumsy, it doesn’t mean they aren’t strong or not dangerous. Pandas have one of the strongest bite forces of any mammals, even stronger than tigers and lions! Their seriously adorable faces receive their shape from massive cheek muscles, not just fluffy fur. These muscles are necessary to chew through hard stalks of bamboo. *
We found a perfect way to cheer you up on a stressful Wednesday. Take a few minutes to enjoy this video of delightful pandas frolicking in a Chinese zoo:
Not everyone is lucky enough to have seen a live panda in real life. We received the idea of making adorable little pandas for everyone in Spokane to enjoy from Betty, the manager of the bakery at Huckleberry’s Natural Market. After many test batches, the cutest baby panda macaron was born; we call him Kiki. The sweet baby panda meringue cookie is filled with cake batter filling. Plus, this macaron naturally has all gluten-free ingredients.
Check out Kiki and other custom desserts we have made by visiting our CUSTOM DESSERTS page.
We were inspired by the photographer Alicia Hauff to play a game with you. She took the above pictures of a little girl playing with Kiki. Isn’t she amazing at capturing the perfect moments in her photography?! We couldn’t help but wonder what pictures you would post with Kiki as well.
We want everyone in Spokane and surrounding areas to have a chance to win a FREE custom 6″ Papa Panda cake. The cake will be made using our funfetti MINA cake and it will look like Kiki’s Papa. That’s right, you will get a completely FREE Papa Panda cake just for posting a picture and following the instructions below.
